Today I had the pleasure of getting caught in a light rain during my run, and then in a total downpour when I was on my cool down/dog walk with Artemis.
I don't know why I like it so much except that it reminds me of my childhood in a vivid and beautiful way. I have many gorgeous memories of summer rainstorms over the years.
Puddle jumping as a child in the Arizona desert or the forests of Germany and Virginia...
Walking for miles in a downpour with a boy I liked in middle school, singing American Pie while soaked to the bone and dancing our way down the sidewalk.
Puddle jumping as a high school student in Colorado even though I was "too old" to do so.
Walking on the beach in a downpour and being the only person in sight.
Running through the desert and enjoying the rare sensation of cool water pattering against my skin, making an otherwise unbearable heat comfortable.
Puddle jumping in the desert as an adult despite being "far too old" to do so.
And today, running through a refreshing drizzle and then walking through downpour with the dog by my side, enjoying the rush of water hitting the leaves above and the gravel below, plodding my feet through a newly formed stream of water that had once been a path, clothes and fur soaked through and dripping, loving the world, nature, and the human experience.
Artemis only slightly wet after a thorough toweling off, and some time to air dry at home.
You really took me with you on those international puddle jumps. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't get your feet wet! (Although I think that's half the fun myself.)
